The silence of standing in the middle of a wintery forest can be deafening. The sight exhilarating. And if you have already hiked a few kilometers then the heat of your body with the cold chill of the air on your cheeks never ceases to warm the soul.
Throughout the Graubunden region there are numerous glittering winter trails for both walking and hiking.
Whether it's a long-distance hike in the lower Engadin, a ridge walk in Flims Laax Falera, a culinary tour in Obersaxen, or a hike amongst nature in Davos Klosters, Graubunden has some of the best winter hikes in Switzerland designed for all fitness levels and ages.
With hundreds of kilometers of marked trails, choose between a short walk or a full day hike. Attempt a summit or stay low in the comfort of the valley amongst the conifers dripped in white. It doesn't always have to be the highest peak or the longest route. On the contrary. A leisurely winter hike always belongs on the to-do list during a winter stay or ski holiday.
Whichever you choose, delight in stopping at some of the sun terraces which invite you to enjoy a break with a view. Don't forget to sweeten these views with a slice of apple strudel or another traditional Grisons delight from many of the huts along the way!
Choose to travel comfortably with a chairlift up then enjoy nature whilst walking down. On some routes you can also opt to slide down on traditional wooden sleighs or take a horse-drawn carriage back down the valley. Be sure to take a rest at some of the benches which boast beautiful views and inspiring quotations which invite you to linger and reflect.
